For almost ten months, there have been tumbleweeds blowing all through this blog. Yesterday was my last day of maternity leave. Today, Little Goldfish is back. I’ve written and rewritten the beginning of this post almost half a dozen times, not knowing where to start. Starting at the beginning is a good place, yes? Good. I’ll start there.
Let’s Start at the Very Beginning…
I had the very best of intentions with blogging before our baby arrived in July last year. The blog content was planned, but I got hit hard with pregnancy fatigue and I just couldn’t do it. Spot was my priority. I stopped then and there. Just as well really because I developed late stage hypertension in the final two weeks of my pregnancy. Bound to happen when I was growing a small human on the larger side of the scale. From memory, there was only a handful of days I didn’t spend in the hospital for appointments or monitoring in those final two weeks, including the birth.
Sparing you the birth story – that’s a story on its own – we are the proud parents of the most wonderful little girl, Eliana Kate. She’s six days shy of eight months, but going on eight years, I swear. Like all parents before us said, she has made our world infinitely better. And yes, we’re learning from her as she is from us. Life is grand.
As much as I wanted to not have to think about work while our baby girl is so young, as a single income family I started thinking about it when Eliana was 5 months old. Would I have to get paid employment to supplement Little Goldfish? Should I continue Little Goldfish at all? Childcare costs, commuting, feeding (Eliana doesn’t like bottles), so many things to factor in. Deep in my bones, I wanted to stay home but I knew that financially I’d need to get some casual or part-time employment. Then the Australian government made our decision even easier by announcing cuts to families. Staying home, pursuing Little Goldfish, and being there for Eliana it is. The best of both worlds.
…A Very Good Place to Start.
Before the government’s announcement, I already knew I wanted to take Little Goldfish in a slightly different direction: I wanted to align my products with my blog. I’ve got the celebrations bit covered with invitations and party decor, but I also wanted to bring my love of design to business, and home+life. You may have noticed the name change too. I’m no longer Little Goldfish Invitations & Stationery, but Little Goldfish Celebrations || Business || Home+Life, but if you’ve been keeping an eye out on Instagram and Facebook, this is old news.
In the coming weeks, along with my existing range, you will begin to see gorgeous typography prints and some art prints available in my shop, as well as other things to help you with your business, and your home+life. I’m working on some very exciting projects, so be sure to keep a close eye on social media and the blog for more announcements.
Where to from here?
Maintaining a similar schedule that I had going before Eliana arrived, you will see Celebrations content every Friday, Business content once a month on a Tuesday, and Home+Life content once a month on a Wednesday. You can expect to see more guest bloggers across all categories, just as you can find me guest blogging for others.
Soon, you can make all your purchases here direct through the website, but until I finish tweaking everything and making sure everything is just right, you can still find me on MadeIt.
If there’s something you’d love to see on the blog, you’d just like to say hi, or you’d like to work together, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment below or on any other post, or get in touch with me. I love hearing from each and every one of you.
