It’s here already, the month of May. The fifth month of the year already, and I’ve only got about nine more weeks until our Spot arrives! With a new month comes new goals as well as a recap of last month’s goals.
April Goals Recap
April Business Goals
Blog twice a week – DONE
I set myself the goal of a new posting schedule: Tuesday and Friday one week, followed by Wednesday and Friday the next, with Business posts on Tuesdays, Home + Life related posts on Wednesdays, and Celebrations posts on Fridays. I’m delighted to report that I successfully managed this goal, even though one was posted Wednesday instead of Tuesday due to technical difficulties.
Do my weekly business schedule every Friday afternoon – 50/50
Ooops, I didn’t get the chance to do this on the first Friday of the challenge on paper (in my editorial planner at least) thanks to some last minute GoGet work I had to tend to, but I had nutted out the real first week of April in my head, and also in my personal kikki.K planner that I carry around in my handbag. I’m counting that as getting it done. The middle two weeks were scheduled beautifully, but the final week of the month I was seriously slammed with final trimester fatigue that nothing really went to plan. I’m not being too harsh on myself though, human growing is difficult work!
Roll out new designs – 50/50
Getting a minimum of four new designs into my shop each week has been a challenge. I spent the first week updating my product images, rehashing old designs, and updating product listings, as well as coming up with new designs. I managed to get four new designs loaded into my store during April, and have four more to load this week once I get more ink for my printer – I ran out of black ink halfway through printing off a product to photograph! I was so annoyed! Again, pregnancy fatigue hit me so much harder than I expected. I am also working on my biggest design yet, one that I will release here on the blog as soon as it’s done!
Finish my business plan – FAIL
Last year I enrolled in the Australian government’s NEIS program. I wanted to apply the principles learned for writing a business plan to LGIS but it just didn’t happen the way I wanted it to. But you know what, human growing is hard work so I’m not beating myself up too much. One step at a time, yeah? I can still work on it in May, it’s not the end of the world.
Get a workspace – DONE
I’m super happy to report that I got myself a gorgeous vintage writing desk from a lovely seller on Gumtree for the bargain price of $65. It’s millimetre perfect for the space I wanted to put it, I could not believe it! Alex was an absolute sweetheart and carried it in from the car (it’s quite petite at just 740mm x 1000mm x 300mm) for me the night we picked it up because I really wanted to use it first thing the next morning.
Having a desk has really helped with my productivity. Instead of just wanting to work, I actually have worked. I might not have achieved as much as I first set out to for April but I’m still really happy with what I have achieved.
May Business Goals
Get new website theme that integrates with and supports Woocommerce
Last week, I decided to tackle opening my own web store as I’d been putting it off for quite a while. I’ve had the Woocommerce plugin sitting there for a little while without activating it, but last week it was time to bite the bullet and get the job started. You can only imagine my dismay when a message appeared in my site’s back end telling me that the Sela theme didn’t support the plugin.
Creative Market came to my rescue, they have the perfect theme that I’ll be buying at some stage this week. Keep an eye out for a fresh new look that I’m hoping to launch on 1 June 2016!
Roll out four new products/designs for the month
In a similar vein to April, I want to continue to develop new designs. As my pregnancy develops in the final weeks, I’m finding myself needing more rest. I’m aiming to have four new products or designs in my shop at the end of the month. Anything additional is a bonus.
Reach out to other small businesses in my target market for collaborations
Self explanatory really. If you’re reading this and would like to collaborate with me, feel free to get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!
Staying on top of business life and personal life requires serious organisation, even more so right now. To combat the fatigue, I’m reducing my business hours to five hours per day. Ordinarily I work Monday to Friday 8:30am until whenever Alex gets home (contact hours are 10am until 4pm), but from yesterday, I’m only working 10am until 4pm so I can rest and slowly do the things that need doing.
Chip away at business plan
If I can get just a little bit done each week, I’ll be one step closer to finishing. No pressures to finish the entire thing though.
May Personal Goals
We’ve got a lot on this month: I have at least one hospital appointment every week this month, Mother’s Day is the 8th – we’re working during the day and then having Alex’s mum for dinner, we have our birthing class (an all day session) on the 15th, a 40th birthday and house warming on the 21st, another birthday celebration on the 22nd, and our baby q shower on the 29th. I’ll still be doing a little bit of GoGet work here and there too, but I will be winding down somewhere around 34 – 36 weeks.
Have one date night a week. Doesn’t have to cost the earth, but just spend more time together before we become parents.
Clear out Spot’s room
We got rid of one thing out of Spot’s room during April. I also added to the mess. Granted the addition is temporary (boxed serving ware for the upcoming baby q shower) but it’s still taking up room. I’ve purposely given us days off from GoGet in May – so I wouldn’t burn myself out – so hopefully we can get it done.
Make the baby q shower activities and decorations, and wash all the serving ware
We’re not doing games as such, but we are asking our guests to participate in keepsake activities that we can use in the future. I’ve got one thing designed already, I just need to print it. I think I’ll work on the other things this week, they definitely won’t take long to design. I’ve ordered a gorgeous felt ball garland from the gorgeous Winston + Grace that is currently en route in Spot’s nursery colours so that once we’re done with using it at the baby q it can go into their room! I cannot wait to see it. I think I’ll share the washing of the serving ware with Papa Bear Alex, there’s lots to wash!
How did you go with your April goals? Have you got your May goals set? Let me know, I’d love to help push each other along!
