Life is whizzing by so quickly. We hit 31 weeks last Friday (6 May) and I’m now halfway through this week, so we’ve got just eight and a half weeks until Spot’s due date! At 28 weeks 1 day, we had a pregnancy photo session with our awesome photographer, Clare Metcalf Photography. Clare was our wedding photographer, and when Spot arrives Clare will be coming to our home in Spot’s first few weeks to capture our moments together as family. We cannot wait! [Read more…]
Sitting here at my desk, I tried to figure out how to start this post. It’s not my usual Friday ‘celebrations are awesome!’ post, but it’s something I’ve wanted to write about for a little while, and I feel that it’s more of a celebration topic than it is a life post. I’m feeling anxious just sitting here trying to get the words from my head to my fingers to the screen. It’s okay Hollie, you’ve got this. It’s time to tell you about my celebration anxiety. Funnily enough, although this is a pregnancy update, I haven’t written a post about my pregnancy journey thus far. I have shared with you that we are expecting our first baby in July in a few posts (here, here, and here), and if you follow me on Instagram you’ll see my bumpdates (that’s a thing, right?) roughly every fortnight, but that’s all I’ve given you – possibly because our life hasn’t slowed down since finding out last October, rather it sped up. Motherhood: it’s been happening since Eve gave birth to Cain, or did Mary’s immaculate conception and subsequent motherhood come first? Clearly, I’m not religious and cannot answer this question. I know that I blush and I thank them for their confidence in my ability to be a mother, but over the course of this week I’ve been wondering if this is something that people just say: Is the sentiment truly felt and that the pending first time mum will be a great mum? Is it an observation over time from one friend who is a mother who firmly believes in their mum-to-be friend? Are they not sure what else to say?
Truth be told, if the comment about me blushing didn’t give it away, I feel embarrassed and never know how to react when this is said to me. What qualities do people see in me to make this statement? I know that I am very maternal, always have been, always will be, but is that the simple answer or is there more to it than my maternal instinct? [Read more…]
With a baby on the way, my mind has been in overdrive about how we would decorate Spot’s nursery. Of course, before I could even think about how we’d decorate, we’d first need to find a bigger place with a second bedroom, and now that that task is taken care of I’ve been able to think about colours or themes. We’d been hoping to find a place with white/light coloured walls to help keep a neutral palette and also to make the room bigger and brighter. Not only does our new abode have light coloured walls – they’re a light grey/white colour – the carpet in the bedrooms and hallway are a light charcoal with a mustard fleck throughout. [Read more…]
